Having recently bought a Canon 500D, I thought I’d give the HD video option a go. This is a selection of clips edited together in iMovie. The original video was recorded at 720, then converted to 960x540 by iMovie. With careful use, the quality can be stunning. At the moment, I’ve found manual focus to give the best results.

My new Canon 500D had only been out of the box a couple of days and I’ve noticed lots of spots on the sensor. These show up particularly well in areas of blue sky and flat colour. These dust spots go hand-inhand with digital SLRs, but I’d hoped they wouldn’t be there on a brand new camera (I’ve newer even changed the lens). Whilst dust spots are easily removed in Photoshop for still images, removing them from High Definition video is another matter altogether. I’m going to think about this for a little while before...
