The New York Crystal Palace was an exhibition building constructed for the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations in New York City in 1853, under the presidency of Mayor Jacob Aaron Westervelt. The building stood in Reservoir Square.

I'm rather proud of this one - a tilt-shift image of a steam train entering Sheffield Park Station on the Bluebell Railway.

"The volunteer run Bluebell Line was the UK's first preserved passenger railway, re-opening part of the old London Brighton & South Coast Railway in 1960. Since then it has developed into one of the largest tourist attractions in Sussex, remaining true to its objectives of the preservation for posterity of a country branch line, its steam locomotives, coaches and goods stock, signalling systems, stations and operating practices."

This is old, 1998 I think. I took this picture of the Mayor of Skegness at an event where he was receiving money for his adopted charity. The Skegness News used it on the front page causing some controversy in the sleepy seaside town!

In a completely un-scientific experiment, I've been looking at the popularity of the official iPhone apps of some of the UK political parties. Browsing through the News and Lifestyle sections of iTunes, the top four parties are in the following positions:

1st: The Liberal Democrats
Joint 2nd: The Conservative Party and The Labour Party (depending on which category you look in)
4th: The Green Party

These results are in contrast to latest YouGov opinions but the result remains to be seen!

Several people have asked me recently why seemingly random iStock images now have different prices. With todays announcement of the Exclusive+ collection, I thought I'd write a short guide to the five iStock image collections.

Level 1 - The Dollar Bin
The Dollar bin is a much overlooked area of iStock where you will find some fantastic images at rock-bottom prices (a large image will set you back just 4 credits). There are currently just under a quarter of a million images in there and they don't appear in regular searches so click here to take a look.

This is where you you will find the majority of work on iStock. These images are not exclusive, so work may also be for sale on other stock photography sites. Large image cost 10 credits. Look for a single grey camera icon (and no crown) before the image number - note that there is no way to search just the Main Collection, search results will always show exclusive content too (see below). 

Images in the exclusive collection can not be bought anywhere else, and exclusive artists do not sell their royalty free artwork anywhere else and as a consequence, these images have a certain rarity. You will need 15 credits for a large image. iStock 'exclusives' are a very close community of dedicated content providers who get to enjoy certain perks at the cost of not being able to upload at other sites. Exclusive files are identified by a gold crown next to the image number.

Level 4 - The Exclusive+ Collection (link to come)
The brand new Exclusive+ Collection is the contributors collection. Every exclusive artist has the option to nominate a certain percentage of their own images to Exclusive+. Exclusive+ files have a gold crown with a little red '+' icon and when fully implemented large images will cost 20 credits.

Vetta is the Crème de la Crème of iStock imagery. With high production values, Vetta is rare and beautiful work where the artist has gone the extra mile to produce something stunning. As a result, Vetta images are the most expensive you will find on iStock - a large image being 40 credits. Images can be identified by a gold camera icon. Take a look at Vetta.
